Acceptances feel better than honey-roasted peanut butter. Flash fiction “Art” in the late October issue of Zygote in My Coffee and two poems (“At Your House” and “Insecticide”) in the December edition of The Battered Suitcase.

Also, please go check out Diane Birch. I am in love.

Two poetry acceptances in two days! Prose poem “Correspondence” at Pure Francis and two-liner “First” at Alba. I don’t know when they’ll be up yet but this is oh. so. exciting.

Gum Thievery

July 18, 2009

Just finished Douglas Coupland’s The Gum Thief. That’s book 17/20 for the summer. It was really good, except for the last section, which brought the rest down. I guess that was  the point. Now I feel like going to Staples.

Why I Hate Library Books

July 2, 2009

I’m in the middle of T.C. Boyle’s The Inner Circle, a book I borrowed from the library, and I think I’ve finally figured out why I hate library books: They remind me of the disrespect the average person (even the average reading person) has for books. While I hold (most) books in high regard, the average person dog-ears books without a second thought. He spills liquid on the page and hesitates before cleaning it up.

On the other hand, I have never dog-eared a page. I think about doing it and I think about the words it will be covering, the words it will be creasing, and the designer who took the time to put them there in the first place – and I can’t do it.

I’d rather buy my own copy, thank you.
